King Japanese Sharpening Stone 8000 Grit Gold G-1 With Nagura will sharpen your knife blade like no other sharpener. The 8000 grit is a very smooth stone and is designed to finish the edge off before use. The process is simplicity itself as only water is required for use along with a little patience and application. This model is supplied with a Nagura stone.

Product Description

With its extremely fine grit size, this #8000 grit honing stone is perfect for the final polishing of bevels and back sides. It gives a fine, razor-sharp edge to any tool of the knife blade. This original Japanese made whetstone releases a constant supply of abrasive particles during sharpening. It ensures that the blade is always presented with fresh cutting edges. This allows the stone to work very quickly. It also prevents it from becoming clogged with the waste metal removed from the edge. For ease of use, this honing stone comes supplied with a stone stand. Dimensions of the stone: 210 x 73 x 22mm.

Unlike other synthetic sharpening stones which consist of a single abrading agent, these Japanese water stones consist of aluminium oxide, carbide and nitride particles fused together. This blend is then mixed with a clay-like bonder and baked at high temperatures to form the sharpening stone. The resultant stone is soft but sharpens very quickly. The soft bonding clay allows the abrasive particles to release very easily when the stone is soaked in water. This gives the user a constant supply of fresh cutting surfaces with which to grind, sharpen and hone their tools.

Craftsmen have been sharpening edge tools with stones for thousands of years. Until very recently, the stones used were quarried in specific parts of the world, where the local stone exhibited all the necessary qualities required of a good sharpening stone, including and most importantly a consistent grit size. With the introduction of new technologies, it was possible to create synthetic sharpening stones with specific grit sizes using a mixture of abrasive compounds suspended in a soft bonding material. As the supply of the premium quality natural stone has become depleted and almost exhausted, man-made sharpening stones have become more popular.

Now favoured by many professionals and sporadic users over the natural stones, when you purchase a synthetic Japanese sharpening stone, you are guaranteed a stone with a uniform grit size that will produce consistent, high-quality results when sharpening and will not vary in quality from stone to stone. This ensures that even those with little exposure to sharpening techniques can easily learn how to optimally sharpen their tools.

  1. Alejandro Garcia Jimenez

Excellent finish stone. Adds just a bit more polish to my knives after the King 6k. It is thick, and sturdy. Love the Nagura addition. This will not really remove much metal, so I wouldn’t expect to do much sharpening, but it does an excellent job of polishing the edge for cleaner cutting.

  2. Josh Williamson

This is an amazing ‘finish’ to my kitchen tools! This was the last stone that I added to my collection. I sharpen our knives myself and feel that in the long run it’s better to invest in whetstones and sharpen my tools myself instead of sending them out and waiting for someone else to sharpen them (first of – it’s pricey!) . I like the King stones, especially this stone and it’s a perfect extension to my 1000/6000 KW65 King

  3. Martin Stravinksy

I used G-1 #8000 stone for lapping and final polishing of my plane blades. Final edges sharper than a razor and polished like a mirror. It came with a Nagura stone, which is invaluable in starting the slurry, as this stone is pretty hard and sleek. Great stuff!

  4. Fran Fran

    Affordable finishing stone.

  5. Jimmy Whitley

Lovely sharpening stone from King, much nicer feel than the 1000 grit I had before. I use the 1,000 for finishing most knives (after a 400 grit naniwa), which gives nice results, and the 1,000 followed by the 6,000 on my Japanese knives, which brings them back to a razor edge. Great purchase.

  6. Jeremy Jones

I am learning to sharpen my new knives with this stone!
