What makes our knives special?
About the set
The Sakai Kyuba ultimate set includes three knives, each perfectly balanced and weighted for optimal form and long-lasting performance:
– A Chef’s Knife 210mm / 8.5in – The Gyuto – a versatile, westernised all-rounder slicing chefs knife that no true cook can live without
or A Chef’s Knife 190mm / 7.5in – The Santoku – a daily knife, a versatile all-rounder slicing knife, a typical Japanese shape, shorter than Gyuto, makes for a great tool for women cooks.
– A Vegetable / Fruit Knife 160mm / 7in – The Nakiri – thin and sharp, perfect for chopping and dicing vegetables;
– A Paring Knife 150mm / 5in – The Petty – extra nimble to tackle the smaller, more intricate chores like peeling or carving.
At Japana we think less is more. More space. More time. More peace of mind. This knife set is a perfect example of what we stand for. With these three high-quality Japanese knives you will be able to perform any cutting task in the kitchen. The Gyuto/Santoku, Nakiri and Petty are the only knives you will need, a beautiful knife set that will last for generations.
About the handle
The beautiful handles are made with extremely limited European Natural Cherry. The wood is dried well before it undergoes the process of handle forming and blade mounting. It has a high water resistance and is able to last generations. The knives have octagonal shaped ambidextrous handle, giving you a firm grip on the knife. Not only are the handles aesthetically pleasing, they are also perfectly balanced and light. This allows for maximum precision and more controlled movements during use.
All Sakai Kyuba knives come in a handcrafted, minimalist fine ash wooden box wrapped in a Japana signature illustration strip presenting Onna Bugeisha – Japanese women warriors. The box is filled with recycled wooden wool guaranteeing a safe transport and aesthetically pleasing unboxing experience.
Nothing about Sakai Kyuba is left to chance. It has been designed, forged and rigorously tested to serve your family for generations. Made from the highest quality V10 46-layer Damascus Hammered Stainless steel – sturdier and sharper than anything you have experienced before. Presented in a natural-coloured ash box for safe storage and keeping. Wrapped in a beautiful Japana illustration strip styled on ancient Japanese paintings. Backed by a lifetime guarantee.
Although inspired by over 600 years of tradition, each of the Sakai Kyuba 堺久馬 blades is absolutely unique. Every single one has been meticulously handmade and perfected in Japan by Sakai’s (堺市) master blacksmith. Forged with Damascus steel – legendary for its plasticity, hardness and distinctive patterns. Handle and blade satin-finished to a subtle, yet stunning lustre. Crafted, not manufactured. No handle pattern is the same, guaranteeing you a unique piece of craftsmanship.
